Terraces for Usable Space

The first challenge was the slope. To make the space more functional and enjoyable, I created a series of terraces, offering multiple levels for different uses. The terraces not only gave the backyard more usable space but also added visual interest and depth. Each level now serves a unique purpose, whether it's for dining, relaxing, or entertaining.

A Reimagined Gazebo: Asian-Inspired with a Modern Twist

One of the standout features of the design is the transformation of an old, Asian-inspired gazebo. I gave it new life by adding a stone wall, soft lighting, and a fire pit, making it the perfect place to gather and enjoy quiet evenings. The stone wall adds texture, warmth and dimension, while the fire pit offers a cozy focal point.

An Outdoor Kitchen for Entertaining with a Special Added Detail

The outdoor kitchen was another key addition to the design. Equipped with everything needed for entertaining, from a built-in grill to prep space and a bar area, this kitchen is ideal for cooking and hosting guests year-round. It seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings, providing a welcoming space for outdoor gatherings. An old tiki hut was removed from the property only leaving behind two fabulous posts that found their perfect home under the outdoor kitchen dining space. 

Repurposed Fountains for Character

Incorporating elements of the past, we repurposed two old fountains found on the property. One is placed in front of the dining room, and the other stands just outside the master bedroom. These fountains bring a sense of history and tranquility to the space, their gentle sounds enhancing the serene atmosphere of the yard.

Stone Details and a Redwood Fence

To complete the transformation, we added a stone finish around the hot tub, tying it into the overall design. The texture of the stone connects the hot tub to the surrounding landscape, making it feel like a natural part of the space. A redwood fence was also added to separate the driveway from the backyard, ensuring privacy while complementing the natural materials throughout the project.

A Lush, Private Retreat

With pathways to stroll through, calming fountains to enjoy, and multiple cozy spaces to relax, this backyard has become a lush, private retreat that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. My clients now have a place to escape, entertain, and connect with nature—all right outside their door.
